Burp the dome

Burp the dome before you open it

Opening a hot EGG fast lets a rush of air in, and the fire can flare out of the dome (flashback). From BGE US's safety page and burp guide, and BGE Europe.

  1. Stand to the side, gloves on, face clear of the dome.
  2. Lift the dome by the handle 5 to 10 cm.
  3. Lower it again.
  4. Repeat 2 or 3 times (BGE US).
  5. Open it fully.
  6. If flames surge, close the lid at once and reopen it in small steps (BGE Europe).
