Big Green Egg XLarge Maintenance Guide
Big Green Egg XLarge
The XLarge Big Green Egg: a 24 inch (61 cm) ceramic charcoal grill, here in its EGG Nest stand (301079) with the folding 21 × 15 in acacia EGG Mates (121134). BGE US sells the XL in a Nest package (127563) and the Mates separately. This guide covers the current EGG, made from 2020: the cast-iron rEGGulator top vent, two black hinge springs, the 3 inch dome thermometer and the 2020 mesh screen in the draft door.
The XL is the Large made bigger: wider (a 673 mm built-in hole against 540 mm) but a little lower (78 cm against 84 cm, BGE Europe), and at 99 kg about a third heavier. The rEGGulator, thermometer, gasket kit, rain cap and draft door tips are the same parts as the Large's; the ceramics, bands, springs, grid, fire grate, convEGGtor and Nest are the XL's own. Big Green Egg's wordless manuals are drawn for the Large; no XL manual was found, so the steps read from them assume the XL is built the same way.
Big Green Egg speaks with three voices: Big Green Egg Inc. in the US, Big Green Egg Europe, and the UK distributor Alfresco Concepts. They disagree on temperatures, so every step says whose advice it follows. Retailers and owners are named where they are used. The XLarge has no latch.
