Unbox, set up and check the assembly
Place it: two people, the Nest first
The EGG arrives partly assembled. From the 2020 and 2026 manuals (picture-only) and BGE US's safety page.
- Build the Nest and stand it on firm, level, non-combustible ground. Never on a slope, never on a table without a Table Nest.
- Lock the 2 locking casters.
- Lift the EGG with two people, hands under the base.
- Never lift by the bands or the hinge: the manuals' pictures cross it out.
- Never lift by the handle.
- Leave 36 cm (14 in) at the sides and back and 91 cm (36 in) in front, on a non-combustible floor of 76 × 91 cm.
Fit the inside, dome and top
The order in the 2026 manual for band kit 117984 and the 2020 manual.
- Set the fire box in the base with its notch lined up with the draft door.
- Lay the fire grate in the fire box, "BGE THIS SIDE UP" upwards.
- Stand the fire ring on the fire box.
- Lay the grid on the fire ring.
- Push the thermometer through the dome from outside and fit its clip inside.
- Sit the rEGGulator on the chimney.
If your EGG came with the bands loose, the 2026 manual bolts the hinge brackets on first; see replace the band and hinge. Then register the EGG.
Check the dome sits true
From the 2020 manual's pictures, BGE UK and BGE Europe.
- Check the dome's front mark lines up with the base's, centred at the front (2020 manual).
- Close the dome and look all round for a gap at the gasket.
- Check every acorn nut is snug with a 7/16 in (11 mm) spanner. Do not overtighten (Ace, a BGE dealer).
- Check the 2 rear clamp bolts with a 1/2 in (13 mm) spanner: BGE Europe says tighten until they show a slight curve.
- Open the dome: it should stay open on its springs.
- Check the bolts again after the first weeks.
