Deep clean inside, once a year

Take the inside out

BGE Europe: "Give your EGG a deep clean once a year." It gives no step list, so the order is the manuals' assembly order in reverse.

  1. Start cold, with the old charcoal taken out.
  2. Lift out the grid (or the convEGGtor and grid).
  3. Lift out the fire ring.
  4. Lift out the fire grate.
  5. Lift out the fire box, one half at a time on current EGGs.

Clean and refit

Inferred from BGE Europe's cleaning and maintenance pages and the manuals.

  1. Scoop or vacuum the cold ash from the base.
  2. Clear the fire box's air holes.
  3. Brush the inside of the dome: BGE Europe says a wire brush or 80-grit sandpaper.
  4. Look at the gasket: replace it about every two years (BGE Europe), see gasket.
  5. Check the bolts and bands.
  6. Refit the fire box (notch to the draft door), grate, ring and grid.
